MANILA, Philippines - The Institute for Foreign Study (IFS), founded in 1991, is inviting parents to consider short-term cultural immersion and study abroad programs as part of their strategy to provide a well-rounded, relevant and global education to their children.

One of IFS’s popular program destinations is Spain. For October 2009, a two-week Discover Spain group program is scheduled from Oct. 17 to Nov.1. This is for ages 16 to 24 and will focus on Salamanca and Sevilla. Limited to 18 participants, applications are now accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The program includes language and culture lessons, visits to nearby places of interest, a stay with a selected Spanish family (two students per family) and after-class activities designed to allow participants to discover the character of both Salamanca and Sevilla.

Applications to the group summer programs for April-May 2010 are simultaneously accepted to allow for timely program arrangements, visa processing and pre-departure sessions to prepare students for their cultural exchange experience.

The Junior and High School Programs in Canada, called the Canadian School Experience, are limited to students ages 10 to 18 (grade school/high school). Participants will attend selected classes at a Canadian school at least three times a week with other program activities and excursions scheduled the rest of the week. Canadian families will host two students per family. This three-week program will cover British Columbia and Ontario. As of this writing, several slots have been filled already thus interested parties are asked to contact Institute for Foreign Study (812-1187 or SMS 0927-3866843/0927-3823095) to immediately confirm slots or avail of any discount promo being offered at this time.

The Spanish Adventure, a five-week group program scheduled for April, covering Salamanca, Sevilla and Barcelona is limited to ages 15 to 24. Intensive language and culture lessons allow for a greater appreciation of the immersion experience. Visits to Madrid, Granada and Figueres in Barcelona form part of the itinerary. Participants who can only do a three- or four- week program due to their school calendars are welcome.

All group programs will have IFS Adult Leaders to provide supervision and monitoring.

Those 18 years old and above who are interested in Italian culture may wish to consider the four-week program in Florence, Italy (option to do three weeks only).

Undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Canada, USA or Australia as well as an internship in Australia for Hospitality students/graduates are also available.

A pre-application form may be secured from the IFS office. To view past program photos, visit http://exchangestudent.multiply.com.
