MANILA, Philippines – Ocean Park Hong Kong is launching Amazing Asian Animals and Ocean Express — two “firsts” in the theme park industry.
Amazing Asian Animals is the world’s first and only integrated indoor and outdoor multi-Asian-species exhibit. Ocean Express is the first and only theme park funicular system running inside a tunnel and with an immersive show.
Amazing Asian Animals is a 25,000- square-meter area that will consist of eight key conservation attractions. The Giant Panda Adventure will serve as the centerpiece of this intricately designed ecological attraction, as it serves as home to the precious giant pandas.
Guests will also see the playful red pandas, pre-historic Chinese giant salamanders, active Asian small-clawed otters, Chinese alligators known locally as the “earth dragon,” and a dozen turtles.
The Amazing Bird Show returns with a new façade and narrations.
The Goldfish Treasure features the world’s largest goldfish collection in a theme park. Guests can also take a hike through Emerald Trail, a nature path that will be set amid waterfalls, a suspension bridge and multiple connections that lead to various natural landscapes.
Completing the experience is the Panda Kingdom Shop with over 5,000 animal-themed items and Panda Café, offering a smorgasbord of popular dishes from Asian regions.
Ocean Express, on the other hand, is set to make Ocean Park the world’s only theme park equipped with three ropeway systems that transport the over five million guests across the sprawling theme park. Opening in the fall of 2009, Ocean Express is expected to carry up to 10,000 guests per hour as it connects the future Waterfront (currently known as the “Lowland”) and the future Summit (currently known as “Headland”) areas in just three minutes. The trains are designed as a 19th century, Jules Verne-inspired explorer’s submarine. The journey will be a multi-sensory, undersea-odyssey experience to give guests that out-of-this-world feel.
