Macau is H1N1-free but stays on full alert

-

MANILA, Philippines – Macau is swine flu-free but preventive measures remain in full force.

In a meeting of the city’s Influenza Pandemic Prevention Coordination Group led by its chairman, Chui Sai On, who is also the secretary for social affairs and culture, and Dr. Lei Chin Ion, director of the Health Bureau, made it very clear that to date, Macau has no confirmed case of Influenza A (H1N1), swine flu’s new label by the World Health Organization (WHO), and stressed that their preventive measures remain in place.

To further the awareness of Influenza A (H1N1), thus bolstering the necessity of good personal and environmental hygiene in the community, Macau’s Health Bureau, Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, other government agencies and over 10 local associations have launched a one-month promotional campaign featuring talks, photo exhibits and a fair on hygiene, flu and cleansing programs. Macau’s taxi drivers have also been asked to regularly clean and disinfect their vehicles.

The Health Bureau has directed anyone with cough, sore throat or fever to wear a face mask and seek treatment immediately at various hospitals.

Lei said the Health Bureau continues to keep closely in touch with the WHO and health authorities of mainland China and Hong Kong for the latest developments.
