Nescafé launches essay contest

-

MANILA, Philippines - After giving musically talented young artists the chance to be heard through its nationwide music competition, Nescafé this time provides the youth the opportunity to display their writing skill in its essay-writing contest, “Why coffee is essential to my student life.”

“We at Nescafé always find ways to motivate students to showcase their talents,” says Bruno Olierhoek, Coffee Business Unit manager of Nestlé Philippines, Inc. “Through the Nescafé 3in1 essay writing competition, we are giving budding writers the chance to display their skill in writing.”

He adds, “For most students, coffee is the beverage of choice when doing assignments and research, writing reports, and studying. For others, coffee plays a more social role — it is the drink over which special bonds are made, conversations are exchanged, and friendship — or even love — is formed. And we at Nescafé want to know what role coffee plays in their student life through this contest.”

The contest is open to all Filipino college students ages 16 and above. The essay must be original, not previously published in print or online, and between 1,000 and 1,500 words in English.

Entry forms may be downloaded from the Nescafé 3in1 official website, www.nescafe3in1.com.ph. Entries should include the duly completed entry form and may be sent to cccnescafe@gmail.com. Contestants are likewise required to submit a valid e-mail and postal address for correspondence.

Entries will be judged according to substance and originality (50 percent), as well as writing style, composition and organization (50 percent). The winning essay will be announced online via the Nescafé 3in1 essay contest website.

The contest runs from April 1 to 30, and no entries will be accepted post-deadline.

Cool prizes await the winners of the Nescafé 3in1 essay writing contest: first prize is an Asus Notebook; second prize is an iPod Classic; third prize is a Nokia cell phone.

All winners will also receive a certificate of appreciation. Students who will send their entries early will also be rewarded. The first 10 to submit are going to receive special gift packs from Nescafé 3in1.

Winning entries will get the chance to be published in national and provincial newspapers. Valid entries will be posted online via the contest’s official website starting from May 7 and will be available for public viewing until June 2.
