MANILA, Philippines - A photobook on reading and the seafarers, Read to Bridge Oceans, will be launched at the 2nd floor Pavilion (beside the Science Discovery Center) at SM Mall of Asia on Thursday, March 26.
An exhibit of over 50 portraits of personalities from the maritime industry will also be featured alongside the book launching. The photo exhibit will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until April 2.
Published by the Gig and the Amazing Sampaguita Foundation Inc., the photobook features “thoughts on reading” by the leaders in the shipping industry as photographed by Mandy Navasero.
Gig and the Amazing Sampaguita Foundation Inc. was established in memory of Ambrosio Gregorio Oca-Robles, the only grandson of Captain Gregorio S. Oca, founder and president of Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP).
The Foundation is a brainchild of Gig’s mother, Marissa, who believes in perpetuating her son’s memory by helping spread Gig’s love of reading.
Other activities lined up during the week-long exhibit are a storytelling session for seafarers’ children by Kitchie Victoria at 2-4 p.m on April 1 and at 4-6 p.m., Mandy Navasero lectures on portraiture lighting with one source of light.
