Surviving 'Koh Lanta'

-

What makes the Philippines such a great place to survive? We asked Koh Lanta-Caramoan producer Thierry Griffin and the Christelle – the winner of Koh Lanta – Caramoan. Here’s what they had to say:

For Thierry: Thierry Graff

PHILIPPINE STAR: What is your best memory of the Philippines?

THIERRY GRAFF: Regarding our shootings, the D-Day of Koh Lanta-Caramoan with the hueys. It was a very long preparation with Jun Juban, all the people involved, all the details to check, everything was absolutely fabulous, like in a dream... from the country, definitely the kindness and gentleness of all the people.

After the two Koh Lantas in the Philippines, do you think many more French folks would be interested in visiting the country?

Yes, of course! Koh Lanta is a huge promotion for the country because we only show the magnificent beauty of the locations. Boracay is famous but there are so many other beautiful islands...

How would you describe the Philippines?

The most Latin and European country in Asia. Catholicism is an historical link between the Philippines and Europe. Even if you don’t speak Tagalog,

It’s much more easy to communicate with people, to understand their culture and to appreciate them than in any other Asian country.

What is the best thing about the Filipino?

Filipinos are so kind, so courageous, always smiling, never complaining; very positive attitude.

What other places in the Philippines would you like to visit?

Baguio, Banaue, Bohol, Visayas, all other islands in the south...

What is your fave Filipino food?

Grilled fish with calamansi, fresh mangoes with suman.

What do you like least about the Filipino or the Philippines?

Tagalog! This is definitely not an easy language to speak for French people!

Christelle comes from near Bordeaux in the south of France. The 28-year-old charmer is a policewoman.

How does it feel to be the sole survivor?

CHRISTELLE: I was very happy to finish this adventure and relieved because I could eat some good food. I can’t believe I survived. I’m sure my parents will be proud of me. It was a great experience.

Given the chance would you join Koh Lanta again?

Of course! Because the first time when you eat something the taste is sensational! It’s a great moment. And I want to confirm my new personality and try to win again.

What is the most important thing you learned from Koh Lanta?

I discovered my moral strength and it boosted my self-confidence.

What’s the best thing you discovered in Caramoan?

The magnificent landscape. The islands are very beautiful and the water is translucent. It’s so beautiful! It’s an Eden on Earth!

Did you feel that you would be the winner of Koh Lanta?

No, because I don’t have self-confidence. I just hoped I would make it to the finals.

If there’s one good thing you could say about the Philippines what would that be?

Filipinos are very friendly and they are open-minded. I want to come back and discover this country more.

Did you get to eat any Filipino food? If yes, what’s your favorite?

No, I’m sorry, because I was the winner.

If you were asked to describe the Philippines to your friends what would you say?

The Philippines is a very beautiful country. It’s definitely a must-see destination.
