Across the miles

When given a few days off to chill, one must still choose wisely. People usually go on vacations for rest and recreation. However, it is important not to shy away from engaging in something cultural. The best places to get both are still local destinations. So pack travel must-haves like sunscreen, swimsuit, book, iPod, and, of course, a credit card and begin the journey of a thousand miles.

We use a credit card to finance that dream vacation. But in the case of the HSBC credit card, you use it to shop for groceries, load gas, pay the bills and at the same time earn air miles and eventually earn free trips to local or even international destinations.

HSBC and Philippine Airlines teamed up with the Mabuhay Miles Visa card in order to give cardholders the fastest way to fly free. For every P45 you spend, you earn one mile.

"A free trip is still the best reward," says Barbara Aragon, Philippine Airlines assistant VP for marketing-products.

When you accumulate 3,000 miles, you get to redeem a one-way ticket to Legaspi, Naga or Roxas. 4,000 miles will give you a one-way ticket to Bohol, Cebu, Puerto Princesa, Bacolod or Iloilo. For international destinations, you could store air miles for Hong Kong, Singapore, Melbourne, San Francisco and Vancouver.

"Sayang ang miles" is HSBC’s campaign geared to give cardholders tangible benefits. Aside from free flights, the miles can be exchanged for free service upgrades to first or business class as well as annual fee waivers. HSBC is the only credit card offering this deal.

"Quality spending deserves quality rewards," says Claire Yap, senior VP and head of credit cards for HSBC. "Together with Philippine Airlines, HSBC hopes to provide cardholders with an opportunity to visit places in the Philippines or explore some of the world’s must-see places."

She adds, "The Mabuhay Miles Visa also has one of the highest average spending per card in the industry, close to thrice the industry average."

HSBC public affairs head Laine Santana explains, "One does not have to wait two to three years or spend millions to get free flights." There is an even faster way of earning free flights with the Triple Your Miles program. HSBC Classic cardholders can double their miles and Gold cardholders can triple their miles by shopping and dining with partner merchants.

Establishments include MyLK, Prince of Jaipur, Gerry’s Grill, Outback, TGI Friday’s, Sugi, Italianni’s, The Coffee Bean, Flavors of China, Tempura, Club Noah, Sonya’s Bed & Breakfast, Scuba World, Anilao Outrigger Resort, Cruise Land Adventure, Bahura, Suriya Spa, Urban Spa, Pinnacle, Red Box, and The Farm, among others.

"HSBC Mabuhay Miles Visa is the only card you need because it gives you value for money. It offers real and tangible rewards that are easy to accumulate and redeem. It is your surest way to earn miles faster and easier," concludes Yap.
