GCash available in US soon
MANILA, Philippines — Traveling is exciting, but it can be daunting when one thinks about bringing wads of cash.
Of course, there will always be the option to take a credit card, but it is still best to have ready money so there's no worry of paying back the amount owed to the credit company.
If one is inclined to go abroad or is set to work overseas, there is good news waiting.
GCash will be available in other countries, such as the United States, Japan, Australia and Italy.
Last February, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas approved the beta launch of GCash Overseas. The service allows users in Japan, Australia and Italy to sign up with the mobile wallet without the need for a Philippine SIM. They only need an international SIM card to access GCash.
Last Friday, GCash said it is opening its services to the first 1,000 Filipinos in the US to sign up using their American SIMs.
“Now that we have activated GCash outside of the Philippines, we are now working towards making it available in more countries. This time, we are adding the US to our list to be able to service over 4 million of our kababayans residing there,” said Martha Sazon, president and Chief Executive Officer of GCash, in a statement.
Interested users may download GCash via Google Play, App Store and Huawei Gallery.
After full verification of identity, users can cash in in the US via Remitly. They can use GCash to send money, pay bills, or buy load. Apart from these, users can also use GCash to pay for their transactions in other territories such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy.
