This ship cray
Imagine more than 3,800 partyphiles aboard a gigantic vessel, 67 different acts, 30 international and regional DJs spread over four days and three nights hopping between two countries. That’s what whisky brand Grant’s blended Scotch whisky did on board Royal Caribbean International’s Voyager of the Seas. Blend a vacation and a music festival together — why not?
The hashtag #ITStheShip2014 best sums up all the photos of the fun that happened within the music festival but we have exclusive photos from insider Javi Martinez who joined the party cruise, dancing to the beats and being backstage or inside the DJ booth with Dash Berlin, Lil Jon, Basement Jaxx, Chvrches and Sasha Grey one night and being with them at the breakfast table the next day. They were in the same boat, of course. An exclusive beach in Langkawi, Malaysia also became a stop for the party peeps before heading back to Singapore, where the ship was docked.
The people behind this musical party fete? The Livescape Group is also behind one of Southeast Asia’s largest music festivals, the Future Music Festival Asia. Back in the day it was just one party at a time; now, for this ADHD generation of diverse musical tastes and roller-coaster experiences, the music festival serves as palate pleaser for all. Now, this rave cruise (not to be mistaken for the actor with the same name) serves as a non-stop buffet of sorts. Party all you can, non-stop while traveling, hanging out with friends, blending whisky, meeting new people, flirting on a ship — you get the drift. Perfect for this generation of multi-hyphenated millennials. The Titanic soundtrack would play every now and then to the amusement (or confusion?) of the guests who flew in from all over the world just to be a part of this historical sail.
I’ve gone on many festivals myself and made a mental note to check off Burning Man this coming year. After seeing the pictures and hearing the stories about this one, methinks I have to add #ITStheShip to my bucket list. Let’s drink to that!
