Where to party: Wanderland Music and Arts Festival

MANILA, Philippines - Did you miss the 7107 International Music Festival and the other music festivals that followed in its wake? Now’s your chance to redeem your street cred as the Wanderland Music and Arts Festival is back today for its second round. Last year was hard to top with headliners The Temper Trap, but this year’s edition promises to be even bigger with The Drums, Paper Kites, Architecture in Helsinki, Royal Concept, Lucy Rose, Last Dinosaurs, Franco, Woody Pitney, The Ransom Collective, Brisom, Techy Romantics, and Chocolate Grass all playing on one epic day. Aside from the music, there will be the River Island Wanderwheel, the High Striker, and carnival games to live up to its theme. There will also be live art from Anjo Bolarda, JP Cuison, Dee Jae Pa’este. Are you seriously planning on skipping this one, too? Better not. Wanderland will take place at the Globe Circuit Events Grounds in Makati, from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Who to listen to and talk about art: Ambeth Ocampo

As a new generation of museum-goers crops up, it can get confusing: which museum to go to, what to expect. Popular historian Ambeth Ocampo will give a talk today about his observations of museums in the Philippines and abroad, community and audience engagement, and globalization. This talk is interesting because the current museum scene is experiencing a boom, with the Yuchengco Museum embracing fashion, the Ayala Museum harnessing social media, the Manila Metropolitan promoting contemporary art, and the National Museum still ruling them all. We highly encourage everyone to visit them soon. “Great Expectations From Philippine Museums” will be held at the Yuchengco Museum at 2 p.m.

Where to shop: As In Shop x Kalsada Coffee Pop-Up Shop

Sometimes, shopping at malls can be a drag because you see the same designs in every store. If you’re the type who’s tired of the ikat and floral trend dominating Manila, you might want to check out the As In Shop x Kalsada Coffee Pop-Up Shop in Teacher’s Village tomorrow. The pop-up shop will sell new and pre-loved books on film, photography, architecture, and travel, CDs, DVDs, stationery, shoes, jewelry, accessories, and the Muji ukay with clothes from Uniqlo, H&M, American Apparel, Graniph, Paul Frank, Nike, Patagonia, and more. You can also enjoy Kalsada Coffee while shopping, which is a line of craft coffee sourced directly from farmers in the Philippines. Kalsada will feature both pour-over and cold-brew coffee. The pop-up shop will be held at Kalsada Coffee, located at 59 Mahabagin Street, around the corner from Burger Project and Sancho’s. The pop-up shop will be held from 2 to 8 p.m.

Where to watch foreign cinema: Viking Screamfest

What do we know about good ole Norway? Aside from the near-zero crime levels and temperatures, what else? The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Manila wants to change that, and they’re supporting tonight’s Viking Screamfest, a one-night open-air film festival featuring contemporary Norwegian films. The mini film festival couldn’t come at a better time because Norwegians around the world are celebrating the bicentenary of the nation’s constitution. And it only means one thing: party time. Tonight, they have a mix of horror, fantasy, and slasher films from some of Norway’s best auteurs. Come discover Norway’s dark side. Viking Screamfest will be held at The Collective, starting 6 p.m.
