Where to buy art: AFAM
Curious title, great concept. The success of ManilArt 2013 led the organizers to organize Art For All Manila (AFAM), an affordable art fair, set this weekend at the SM Aura. Last year’s ManilArt drew so many people that it spurred the organizers to do it again, this time making the pieces more affordable. The cap price of works will be P45,000, but we’re hoping there are pieces that are a fraction of that cost, so that more people would have access to good art. Twenty upcoming and established galleries are participating: 371 Art Space, Art Galileia, Arte Pintura Gallery, Artes Orientes, The Artologist, Galleria Quattrocento, Galerie Francesca, Galerie Joaquin, Galerie Stephanie, Gallery Artes, Gallery Big, Gallery Nine, L’Arc en Ciel, León Gallery, Mendez Big and Small Art Co., Qube Gallery, Renaissance Art Gallery, Transwing Art Gallery, vMeme Contemporary Art Gallery, and Walls Gallery. The fair will also feature a talk from prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde and a ballet-class demonstration by the scholars of Ballet Manila’s Project Ballet Futures.
What to wear: Pleasant Manila
Pleasant, a Danish clothing brand with production in Manila is officially opening shop in the country. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as the approaching summer months is a good time to wear the label, a surf-inspired brand. Like destiny, February is the perfect month because the label is inspired by the time not spent surfing, or the glow that awaits the promise of sun and sand. This season’s collection focuses on the beach and activities besides surfing. The clothes are a mix of shirts, tank tops, and even button-downs that evoke the summer vibe. It is a less flashy version of traditional beachwear, with soft pastel colors that are less gnarly and more upscale chill. Aside from clothes, Pleasant Manila will also offer candies and cookies, music, and art from Scandinavian artists. The launch will take place today at 3 p.m., at Felipe & Sons in Salcedo Village, Makati.
