Boo, you horse
MANILA, Philippines - To ring in the new year of the Chinese calendar, Supreme asked 10 artists to illustrate 10 equine icons in recent pop culture memory. Can you name them all?
The artists in this spread are Rob Cham, an artist who started out drawing web comics a handful of years ago, and has expanded to full-blown illustration, graphic design, and even teaching; Epjey Pacheco, an artist whose main weapon of choice for his detailed work is the pen; Paulina Ortega, an art director and designer at a boutique creative shop in Singapore; and Smile Indias, who is a government employee on weekdays, but spends her Saturdays teaching art history.
Also in this supreme gathering of artists are Tintin Lontoc, who used to be a producer, but is currently focusing her powers on being a designer, illustrator, and fashion retailer; Fran Alvarez, a designer and illustrator, working from Studio Dialogo, and a member of Ang INK; Kris Caguiat is an artist, graphic designer, and gallery girl; Isabel Santos, an artist who tried to live a life away from art but couldn’t; Mano Gonzales, an illustrator who uses a humble pencil to sketch out moods and feelings; and this author.
This is Supreme’s way of giving tribute to this calendar year’s animal: the horse. Happy Chinese New Year, readers!
