MANILA, Philippines - Young game-changers in business how they work and how they play.
Holly Chang, 24
Owner, Wink Laser & Wax Studio
Her work scene: I manage the operations of Wink, a new place in BHS Central that specializes in laser hair removal and waxing for both men and women.
How she unwinds: When I need to get some work done alone, I head to Coffee Bean for a Chai or Green Tea Latte. After work, I like going to Stella/Rocket Room or Beso for dinner and drinks. For Stella, I love their queso plate, bone marrow, and firecracker pasta. For Rocket Room, their Rocket Fuel and their version of Gin Fizz. For Beso, the beef brisket, their sampler plate and their sangria!
Where you can find her on a Saturday night: I normally just have dinner at either Balducci’s, Hossein’s, or Sariwon. Then drinks at Rocket Room, the rooftop bar of Seda or Urbn.
Mark Platon, 34
Managing director,
Bonifacio Security Services, Inc.
His work scene: Security is a 24/7 job, and no two days are exactly the same. It is hardly a desk job either, so I find myself wherever I’m needed, whenever I’m needed.
How he unwinds: An easy stroll up and down BHS with a Jamba Juice in hand is a welcome stress-buster. While I am secretly eyeing our personnel on post, I usually end up being drawn to some of my favorite stores to check out what’s new: Adidas, Healthy Options for organic toiletries, Manduka yoga gear at Certified Calm, watersports gear at ROX, and home accessories from Dimensione.
Where you can find him on a Saturday night: Dinner at High Street Central depending on how we feel: either the free-flowing menu at Geisha, The Village Tavern or Nolita for comfort food. And when the munchies strike, we just have to take home some choco-yema cupcakes from Slice. Good thing there’s outdoor seating, so a lot of times my buddy Mochi (he’s an English Bulldog) gets to hang out with us, too!
Nadine Howell, 24
Marketing and operations manager,
2nd’s Restaurant
Her work scene: My work relies a lot on interaction from our guests. I make sure that guests are happy, service and the dining experience is up to standard, and I try to look for ways to improve operations. Most of my day revolves around food, so I get to try different kinds of food for quality control or research, I talk about it, and take lots of photos of it to post on our social media sites.
How she unwinds: I usually take a walk around Bonifacio High Street in the afternoon and settle in one of the coffee shops for an afternoon snack or have a look around Fully Booked.
Where you can find her on a Saturday night: Saturday night is one of the busiest nights of the week at 2nd’s, so you’ll most likely find me there.
Charles G. Platon, 24
Client relations manager,
Royal Safety Sense
Security Incorporated
His work scene: I start my day bright and early, meeting with my business development manager and my operations team to discuss their specific key result areas. Before we start our daily inspection and roving, we make sure to tackle all client, customer, as well as personnel, concerns. The day ends with each operations head reporting on the day’s issues.
How he unwinds: At Serendra or Bonifacio High Street. I’m a big fan of fitness so I have to make sure my workout is enough to support my appetite (laughs). My favorite dessert places are Sonja’s Cupcakes and Slice. This is where you’ll normally find me cheating and breaking my diet with some red velvet cheesecakes and sinful cupcakes.
Occasional shopping sprees are also a must. I get everything I need at Sperry Top Siders in BHS. For streetwear, American Eagle, Cotton On, Mango He, and Banana Republic.
Where you can find him on a Saturday night: Skye or Hyve on days I’m craving good music, drinks, and an occasional swing on the dance floor.
