Koji Arsua - The Philippine Star

Have a rocking barbecue at the Brixton BBQ party

MANILA, Philippines - We were all there when Heima opened up its Brixton branch, making the world a more beautiful place with their unique and colorful items. The launch was packed — filled with Heima regulars and fans of Ang Nawawala, which released its soundtrack on vinyl. Today, Heima is hosting another party, the Brixton BBQ party. Summer has finally arrived, and what better way to embrace it than good music, good food and drinks, and our favorite pair of criminally-short denim cut-offs? The party will celebrate Heima’s fourth anniversary and the Heima Design Discussions at co.lab. The BBQ party will feature music from No Rome, Similar Objects, Major Chie, Idkids, Coexist, Zomtendo, Skymarines, I Press Play, and DJ Nativity, who flew in from California to spin. Summer begins at 5PM.

Get a book and a rose at the Dia Internacional Del Libros

Why don’t we put aside all those lovely music festivals and focus on a book festival? Today, Instituto Cervantes, the world’s largest Spanish organization, is holding its annual Dia Internacional Del Libro, or International Book Day. Like its previous incarnations, the festival will feature books (both English and Spanish), poetry recitals, dance performances, and a flamenco guitar show to celebrate everything Spain. The event is unique because a red rose will be given for every book sold. This tradition has been going on for centuries and commemorates the deaths of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, who died on the same day and year. This year will mark a historic event; this year’s Dia will be held outside the Instituto and in Bonifacio High Street. Andale your way from 1-8 p.m.

Hit the beach in the city with Venice sunset party

Those itching to go to the beach and those who can’t because of their busy schedules can drop by the Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill for the Venice sunset party: Summer Spindependence. The piazza will transform into a beach to welcome the season with flow art, flow art workshops, firedance performances, and musical performances from Sandwich, Pedicab, The Diegos, Franco, and Urbandub. Who says you have to get out of the city to get that beach vibe? Get your beach bodies ready by 4 p.m.

Watch everything come off at â€˜Full Monty’

Female stripper movies come and go, but how often do you see ones that feature men? Magic Mike was magical, but many are hungry for fresh pieces of meat. Allow the cast of Full Monty to sate your appetite with the local production of the well-loved film turned Broadway play. The play features a group of unemployed men who decide to strip — except that they will let it all go, or go the full monty. We’re expecting a lot of catcalls and squeals (hey, we’re not judging), but the story will also touch on serious themes such as family, friendship, fear, unemployment, and inner demons. The cast is comprised of Mark Bautista, Arnel Ignacio, Marco Sison, Jamie Wilson, OJ Mariano, and Niño Alejandro. Now, we’ve heard rumors of actual frontal, but we’re not quite sure of this — yet. We guess you have to see the show to find out. The shows will run from April 19 to May 5, at the RCBC Plaza, Makati City.
