Watch The Fray
MANILA, Philippines - Tonight is when it all happens, when you thank Isaac Slade for being there for you in your darkest moments in life. The Fray concert happens tonight, and you better have a ticket. If you’ve been living under a rock (or have been an optimistic sea sponge that vomits rainbows and sunshine), The Fray is the group behind the hits How To Save A Life and You Found Me, two of the saddest songs to come out of the last decade. Their honest lyrics and heartfelt tempos shot them to fame, especially for Filipinos in touch with their sensitive side. The Fray concert will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at 8:30 p.m., and if you aren’t familiar with their music, stream their videos on Youtube and get your ass to the Coliseum and find your friendly neighborhood scalper.
Immerse yourself in Zean Cabangis’ art
Rogue magazine recently baptized Zean Cabangis as one of the six young artists to invest in now. That alone is enough to encourage everyone to visit Zean Cabangis’ solo exhibition at Artinformal. His exhibit, called Goat Paths, celebrates hoarding in its underrated glory: nostalgia over seemingly trivial items from the past. His style is similar. He uses a process called emulsion transfer where he superimposes images that emulate “a hoarder’s love of layers and their incessant need to fill spaces.” The exhibit had its opening reception last night, but catch the show until Nov. 24. Visit soon before he becomes really major. Artinformal is located at 277 Connecticut St. Greenhills East, Mandaluyong.
Take the stage at the 4th National Theater Festival
Theater doesn’t have to be high-brow, and the National Theater Festival is proof that the world of the stage is for everyone who knows how to have a good time. This year, the festival is packed with activities until Nov. 18 such as performances from theater groups from around the country, a conference on issues and concerns in Philippine theater, exhibits, and screenings of films that started out as plays and vice versa, like Bona, Insiang, Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, Anatomiya ng Korupsyon, and Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah: Ze Moveeh. The festival will be held at the CCP and it might be a good idea to attend at the latter part, where they will be performing the critically-acclaimed Orosman and Zafira on Nov. 17 and 18.
