MANILA, Philippines - Dolphy was different things to different generations. To some, he was Kevin Cosme, to others, John Puruntong, Facifica Falayfay, or Golay. This is the mark of a true artist — timelessness. Dolphy is a figure that we adore along with our parents and grandparents. He's an icon that our children will rediscover and worship, too.
The sadness over Dolphy’s passing has not worn off, but as we look back on his life, we cannot help but smile. He was a man who made us laugh in the bleakest of times. He was a celebration of life; a beacon of hope for the Pinoy everyman.
More than sorrow, we feel gratitude. More than loss, what we’re left with is love. Today, we pay tribute to a legend who helped define Pinoy pop culture for over half a century. We say goodbye to a Filipino treasure by recalling the parts he played — characters we grew up with; roles that moved us, taught us, comforted and consoled us.
Thank you, Mang Dolphy. Thank you. Thank you.
