Best of the week: The Coronavela ends, a catfight begins, and Justin Bieber goes bonkers

Climax of the week: Corona-vela

MANILA, Philippines - The epic climax of the Corona-vela finally happened on Tuesday with 20 votes to impeach Corona and a mere three to acquit him. The event was highly entertaining, but a little tedious because of the relatively brief speeches the senator-judges gave regarding their decision. Turns out, Globe came up with a new service called Unlispeech where the senator-judge could speak for hours on end for only P25 a day. Apparently, Miriam Defensor-Santiago availed of the service and based on her speech, the network could be down for days!

Kabogera of the week: Bryanboy

Gone are the days when Bryanboy was gallivanting around Alabang, taking pictures of himself in his outlandish oufits. These days, other people are doing it for him, and he’s set to conquer the entertainment industry by becoming the new judge of America’s Next Top Model. At the rate Tyra’s going to getting Filipinos to appear on the show, she’s bound to fly her finalists to the Philippines for their final episodes. Imagine what that could do for the country! A photoshoot at Luneta! How lovely it would have been for Atienza to still be Manila mayor – everyone would be wearing florals!

Catfight of the week: Xtina Superstar vs. Philippine Fashion Week

It’s a fashion war! On one side we have Xtina Superstar, a transgendered fashion model/stylist and on the other, Tina Herrera, Philippine Fashion Week executive producer. In the recently concluded Holiday Collection of PFW, Xtina was barred from walking Kermit Tesoro’s show at the last minute, allegedly for being transgendered. However, Tina maintains that Xtina was never booked in the first place, referring to Xtina as “he” on Twitter. Fights like these are always two-sided so what better way to end this than a fashion walk-off a la Zoolander?

Geisha of the week

Zhang Ziyi is being investigated for prostitution. According to Chinese media, former Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai offered to pay her SG$2 million to sleep with him, to which the actress agreed, having at least 10 encounters with Bo between 2004 and 2007.  Her alleged “pimp” Xu Ming, founder and chairman of the Dailian Shide Group, is said to have linked her up to other officials as well, leading Zhang to grind in (pun intended) a total of SG$141.7 million between 2004 and 2007. It looks like Kyoto’s finest geisha has been working it simultaneously, on and off cam.  —Cate de Leon

Bully of the week

Who knew the girl had it in him?  But it seems Justin Bieber isn’t getting away with beating up a photographer at Commons mall in Calabasas, where the singer lives.  The photog was trying to take a picture of Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez, which resulted in a brawl.  The photographer called 911 and was released shortly after being examined at a local hospital, but nevertheless has decided to file charges for which Bieber could serve six months in jail.  If convicted, those are six months he can’t spend making more songs to grate on our ears.  —Cate de Leon
