Boo-boo of the week: Pacquiao and the BIR
MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao is getting ready for another fight, but not in the ring. His new opponent? The BIR. According to the bureau, Pacquiao is facing charges for obstructing an investigation into his earnings from matches and endorsements, which we’re guessing runs up to millions of pesos. However, Pacquiao claims that he is being harassed and wants the director fired, vowing to fight the case in court. Sadly, being a national icon doesn’t exempt one from legal duties, but Pacquiao doesn’t think so, appearing in court in boxing regalia complete with gloves.
Shooting of the week: ‘Survivor’ in Camarines Sur
Amid the fervor The Hunger Games has stirred across the world, Filipino fans will be delighted to hear that the next two seasons of Survivor will be filmed in the Philippines. Shooting is ongoing in the Caramoan Islands of Camarines Sur, though it’s surprising to hear that the French, Swedish, Belgian, Indian, Turkish, Serbian and Israeli editions of the show have filmed here before. The season will premiere in September and in the meantime, locals would have to face a different kind of Survivor: graduating and finding a job. Good luck, graduates!
Uniform of the week: MMDA constables
The MMDA constables in charge of traffic along EDSA will have a Project Runway Philippines-worthy makeover, with a spring/summer collection that will debut before Fashion Week: shorts. Paired with the traditional blue top and sash, the look will provide comfort in the summer heat without cramping serious swag and patrolling duties. Enforcers are now also called constables, though the title seems fitting for those with more sophisticated uniforms and sexy accents, not grown men in shorts. There will be 500 “constables” patrolling EDSA in the latest style, and if you look closely, you might see Russell from Up.
Best dressed of the week: Tyra Banks in Francis Libiran
Supermodel-turned-TV personality-turned-Harvard graduate (yes, it’s true) is back on the best-dressed list, with a little help from Filipino designer Francis Libiran. Francis, who is no stranger to designing celebrities such as Kim Chiu, Anne Curtis and Bea Alonzo, sent his gown to Pinoy America’s Next Top Model executive producer Michael Carandang in the hope she’d wear it for the annual Blossom Ball in New York. And wear she did, landing herself on the best-dressed list. She looks sexy and she knows it, thinking, “After 18 cycles, I’m still America’s next top model, child.”
Cover girl of the week: Bianca Gonzalez
Bianca Gonzalez could easily be pegged as the perfect girl. She’s smart, she’s beautiful, and she’s talented. It’s easy to want to hate her because she has everything a girl could dream of but she’s proven she’s kind, too by being UNICEF’s child rights supporter. This April, she is on the cover of Esquire Philippines for “The Fun Issue” with only a bikini bottom, showing that she is also sexy. To top it off, she also wrote her own cover story. Seriously, girl, is there anything wrong with you? Y U so perfect?
