In the interest of bromanticism

MANILA, Philippines - Few people may be aware of it, but one of the oldest tales of bromance came way before the film I Love You, Man and the scene where Jonah Hill whispers the words, “I love you” into Michael Cera’s ear while spooning him in Superbad. No, one of the earliest instances dates as far back as 1801, when the brothers James and John Chivas banded together in the highest expression of brotherly love to create Chivas Regal. The brand not only became one of the most prestigious whisky ranges in the world, but it continues to be the catalyst for not only blood brothers, but brothers-from-other-mothers to carry on the legacy of brotherhood and chivalry.

It is fitting then for the brand to hire Academy Award winning director Joachim Back and his brand of dark, absurd humor to direct two shorts for the legendary whisky brand: Here’s To Big Bear and Here’s To Twinkle. Chivas Regal brand director James Slack talked about the two films and why they represent the brand, saying “The escapades of these four guys are re-lived and retold in a way that we can all relate to. From the comforting retrospective of the future, it’s great to look back on the good times and the bad times with your best friends. If it’s over a glass of Chivas, all the better.” For director Joachim, most crucial is the focus on friendship: “If you don’t have a friend, get one!”

The shorts were screened last March 7 at the Chivas Regal “Real Friends” campaign launch in Fiamma Bar and were introduced by Chivas Brothers Ltd.’s regional mentoring manager Darren Hosie. If you weren’t there, don’t fret: The films are also available to view at www.chivas.com. Just make sure that you’re over 18 in order to enter the site.
