Overly publicized split of the week: Kim K and Kris Humphries
MANILA, Philippines - A $10 million dollar TV wedding and 72 days is all it took Kim Kardashian to realize that her marriage to Kris Humphries wasn’t for her. After finding out about the divorce from gossip website TMZ, Kris has kept mostly to himself, while Kim sent a letter to fans stating that her marriage wasn’t a publicity stunt because she “married for love,” and that the $18 million she earned from her TV wedding will go to charity. (We wonder if Kris got a letter, too.) A divorce is never fun, at least not for the couple, but tweeting us at @PhilStarSUPREME with the hashtag #ThingsLongerThanKimsMarriage certainly is!
Upstaged split of the week: Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard
In the wake of the all the brouhaha surrounding Kim K’s divorce, another celebrity divorce barely flew under the radar. After being married for only two years The New Girl star Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard announced their split. It’s always sad when love stories don’t play out like they do in the movies (with the exception of 500 Days of Summer), but at the very least, fans of the couple can take comfort in the hope that maybe, the forthcoming She and Him and DCFC albums might be pretty good. After all, heartbreak usually ends up as great songwriting material. Just ask Alanis Morrissette.
Billie Jean of the week: Mariah Yeater
If 20-year-old Californian Mariah Yeater is to be believed, international pop phenomenon Justin Beiber is her baby, baby, baby… daddy. Yup, in a hand-signed affidavit, sworn under the penalty of perjury, Yeater told a California court that she and Bieber had a sexual encounter on Oct. 25 of last year after his concert and backstage at LA’s Staples Center. If he takes the paternity test and confirms Yeater’s allegations, then he might be looking at another case headed his way — a custody battle with girlfriend Selena Gomez over their recently adopted Husky mix, Baylor.
Catfight of the week: Shaina Magdayao and Ruffa Gutierrez
It all started with a text message… who sent it first seems to be where the problem starts. Because nobody, even for a second, thought it would be the least bit awkward, Vina Morales invited her sister and matinee idol John Lloyd Cruz’s beau, Shaina Magdayao, and Ruffa Gutierrez, JLC’s former flame, to her birthday party last week. Then all hell broke loose. Shaina, under the pretense that Ruffa texted JLC after the party, sent her a series of SMS messages that basically said “Back off!” In response, Ruffa stated that the accusations were “ka-cheapan,” and on Paparazzi Showbiz Exposed, she warned them not to frame her as a third party “Kasi napakahaba ng hair ko. Hanggang talampakan ko!” Yikes. Your move, John Lloyd. Only you can pacify these two feisty women.
Condolences of the week: The Revillas and the Pempengcos
The extended Halloween and All Souls’s Day weekend went by tragically as the 22-year-old son of late actor Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr. and half brother of Sen. Bong Revilla Jr., Ram Revilla was shot and stabbed in his home in BF Parañaque last Oct. 29. To add insult to their misery, the police have called the murder a “closed case” after two of Ram’s half-siblings were named as suspects, much to the opposition of the Revilla clan. Two days after Ram’s killing, Charice Pempengco’s estranged dad Ricky was stabbed with an ice pick at a grocery store in Laguna. Police suspect his murderer to be a certain Angel Capili Jr. and the reward money for information leading to his capture has been raised to P200, 000. For both cases, may justice be served and may both their souls rest in eternal peace.
