Believe it or not, a model who bakes

- Jessica Yang -

MANILA, Philippines- Honestly, I was surprised when Supreme asked me to share a recipe, after seeing a photo album of things I bake on Facebook. All my friends tell me that my photo album is too evil, since they always get so hungry after browsing through it, but it really isn’t more than a hobby.

When I was a kid, I used to dream about having a mom who bakes at home just like those moms on TV. But back then in Taiwan, my mom was too busy at work, so I never had a chance to bake with my mom. That never stopped me from baking — maybe it’s what got me interested. I enjoy watching baking shows on TV, and I love to just go to bookstores and read recipes for hours. Baking really just puts a smile on my face. It’s my therapy.

I only started baking when I was in third year high school, but I was just my friend’s little assistant. My friend is a natural at baking. She really loves to bake and she’s so good at it, she doesn’t really need to measure all the ingredients, nothing exact, and the desserts still turn out awesome.

Later, I started to bake by myself when I found new recipes that I would like to try, so I would always bake when I was free from school or work. As I got busier, I baked when I couldn’t think of anything to give as gifts — meaning, on special occasions only!

But guess what? Now, I can always bake with my mom (sometimes even with my dad!), since they are both retired and have all the time for me and my brother.

So here’s a dish I prepared with my mom, peach bread pudding:

Ingredients:

A cup of milk

40 grams sugar

Two eggs, beaten

Four slices buttered bread, cut into squares

Canned peach (sliced)

Raisins

Procedure:

• Preheat the oven to 110.

• Pour three cups of hot water on the baking pan, place it in the oven. This is because we are going to bake our bread pudding in a pan of water later.

• While preheating, cook and mix the milk and the sugar in low heat, until the sugar gets completely dissolved in the milk, then place it aside to cool down till 50.

• After cooling down the milk, sift the beaten eggs and mix it with milk.

• Place bread in baking dish, and the sliced peaches and raisins on top.

• Pour mixture over bread pieces and wait for 15 minutes, this is so the bread will fully absorb the mixture.

• Now, you can bake your bread pudding in the pan of water we preheated earlier for about 50 minutes and then it’s ready to serve.
