W e a r a r c h i t e c t u r a l l y minimal black and it’s instant style authority.
But at the temperature that the mercury is rising, even I find my midnight uniform a tad bit taxing, and tired. I’m not forever hanging up my dark side. It’s just that, an inky monochromatic statement used to spell “instant cool cred,” but as it seeps into mainstream consciousness, and gets easier to accept, color gets to be the other surprising element.
But it’s not easy to wear a spectrum, especially when I’d rather save the statement pieces for an occasion fit to wear them. But I’ve declared that color is the new must-be seen-in. (With resolve!) I’m transitioning my ascetic lines into full-blown color because I’m addicted to its buoyant emotion and energetic vibe. While it takes an alternative fashion mindset to embrace an all-black rockabily, it also takes a different discipline to master the degree of painted shades.
To perfect it, the runways were awash with new tonal coordinates: Unpredictable matches like cornflower blue and chocolate brown at Céline, winking jewel shades of amber, amethyst and turquoise at Gucci, and fresh inspirations at Jil Sander (try cornflower blue with coral). Suffice to say, this season is definitely for the brave and adventurous.
