Yes, we know today is all about JT, Timbaland and Jojo...and Earth Hour, of course. This season’s drought has brought in a deluge of rainmakers that sure makes for good thirst quenchers. Yes, Manila becomes more and more happening as the season becomes hotter and hotter.
Aside from the “Changing Lives” power trio (we have an exclusive on them, if my twitter updates are not enough), Gabriel Saporta of Cobra Starship is also in town — he’ll probably be out clubbing around town tonight. American Idol alumnus Jason Castro hopped between Manila and Cebu for a promo tour, and let’s not forget electro pop sensation Owl City, with 22-year-old front man Adam Young and his band surrounding Manila (or QC—Trinoma Mall concert grounds, to be exact) with Fireflies. I sat on the front row for the Owl City concert, glad to be invited by Trinoma GM Mark Sablan and Greenwich ka-barkada Francis Flores. It seems that the Big Fish group is taking things to the next level and has already started mounting concerts, aside from their regular fare of massive dance parties that they are known for. Keep it up, you guys — the more, the merrier!
That night at Trinoma, the crowd was young. But when one says the crowd is getting younger and younger, I didn’t expect them to be eight-plus-year-olds swaying their bodies to Owl City’s music. Talk about no gaps in between generations! Still, it was a breath of fresh air from Makati’s crowded metropolis. It’s actually refreshing to go around Trinoma, what with its unique cluster of urban wear stores (I love Royal Elastic, Viktor and Tough Jeans!) and hip restos (Holy Cow and Madison — I love!), not to mention their garden rooftop — it feels like a mini Central Park — what a perk!
Veering away from trending topics, we here at Supreme believe in the power of choice. Sometimes in the speed of things with the current pop culture goings-on, we forget certain cheap thrills that should always be on our list. Things like birthday parties! Swimming parties! Yes, these are the things that make summer even hotter!
All-Naked Party
Last week, while DJ Eric Kupper spun his hits Ever After and Sunrise at Encore, architect Victor Consunji decided to throw a party for his fiancee Maggie Wilson and good friend Bianca King. Held at the poolside of his Forbes home, it was a gathering of tinseltown’s hottest — all in their naked glory! Well, okay, not naked, but almost.
Victor is an “all-the way-or-no-way” kinda guy, so for this party, he made sure to stamp it with his signature style. Cabanas set up all over the place, check. Rain shower curtain set up above the pool, check. Heated pool, check. Finger food, drinks concocted by the scene’s favorite mixologist Doods Dayto — check, check, check!
If you didn’t get wet, the guests took it upon themselves to get you wet. One by one, they were all thrown into the water. Never mind if they didn’t bring a change of clothes. If Angel Locsin got thrown into the water, everyone gets thrown in, too! Cristine Reyes looked haawt in her two- piece bikini (Maggie brought a lot of extra ones, just in case) and there were at least four beauty title holders, the just- turned-21 Maggie (Bb. Pilipinas World 2008) of course, included — all wet. I didn’t want to be thrown into the pool, so I volunteered to put all my gadgets in one place, then jumped right in — in fully layered clothes! I wasn’t alone though, as my co-Party Pilipinas party jock Mond Gutierrez hopped in fully clothed as well. Fun with a capital F!
I looked around and I swear everybody was so damn hot it reminded me of a Young Hollywood pool party. I looked at the party hosts sweet dancing to DJ Mark Nicosia’s beats and I couldn’t stop myself from commenting on how hot they looked together! The soon-to-be-married (Dec. 18, in El Nido, Palawan to be exact) couple then showed me their matching tats — Victor’s shoulder marked by a Maggie, that, when reversed, says “my love.” Maggie’s tattoo in turn has her fiance’s name on her hip, and when you look at it from another angle, it says, “true love.” Hot, right?
If that ain’t enough, well we hope this Supreme spread covers it. So after tonight’s triple treat of Timberlake, Timbaland and Jojo, what’s next? There’s Tears for Fears this May 2 and John Mayer come May 16. Did I say a mouthful already? Well, here’s more. Concert groups are scrambling to get first draft of Justin Bieber. Yes, I repeat, Justin Bieber in Manila. Did I say hot?
So while others blab, Supreme delivers the scoops. More exclusives on this space, soon.
