MANILA, Philippines - Rhian Ramos is that rare hybrid of an artist that can appeal to all walks of life — the hoity-toity will believe her, the masses have already fallen in love with her. It is in my opinion that the GMA Artist Center has struck gold with this one.
Hailed both by the public and her peers as one of the most talented young actresses in showbusiness, Rhian is not one of those “strike-while-the-iron-is-hot” types, preferring to carefully plot out her moves before plunging into the shark-infested waters of showbiz. Late last year, I taped the Christmas day special of noon- time variety show legend Eat Bulaga with her and asked her how she intends to plot her 2010. “I’ll lie low, maybe do indie movies,” she said in an unsure tone. This, despite the breakthrough success of her work in last year’s Stairway to Heaven.
Fast forward this year and Rhian, outside doing last month’s Sunday afternoon soap Dear Friend, has chosen to concentrate on her upcoming album. At the Myx Music Awards, she was the only artist who presented alone (she’s fearless — and peerless) for Favorite Female Singer. She took this chance to also promote her current musical project. “I’m a very committed person. I concentrate on a task instead of spreading myself thin. Nothing I do is half-baked. I hate embarassing myself,” she said.
She Has Music And Magic
I have personally seen her music video and am amazed that this girl could really sing!” Rhian narrated to us that “One of the executives of Belhaus Entertainment [her album producer] saw me singing on TV. They called and offered a recording contract. Did I play coy? Hah!” Naysayers don’t faze her, as she’s doing this (alongside constant voice lessons to hone her newfound craft) “for the believers — I want them to be proud that they threw their support behind me. I won’t let them down,” she said.
True to her and the Artist Center’s vision, Rhian will be seen in the indie film, Saving Sally, opposite TJ Trinidad. They play sweethearts on the TV show which amuses Rhian no end. “The first time TJ and I worked together, we were cast as brothers and sisters. And now...” That the business of show is unpredictable is an understatement.
What can she not do? “I can’t dance — my coordination is terrible!” she confesses. “But hey, there isn’t anything that cannot be learned!” Her eagerness to reach out and excel in all fields of endeavor is refreshing and charming, like a little girl who will never give up — and rightfully so. “I promised myself that I’ll show people something new in me every year. That way, I grow even as they grow with me.” This is one of the reasons why Supreme put Rhian in the top of the list of artists to always-watch-out-for.
“I wanna be good in all my undertakings and that takes time and devotion,” said Rhian. Patience is a virtue. We have no doubt you’ll get there — we here at Supreme will proclaim it with pride: Rhian Ramos’ star will shine even brighter.
Now place your bets.
