MANILA, Philippines - Something’s brewing at the Channel V studios, I can smell it. I enter the predominantly green-colored offices of the newly bought music network by Ronald Singson and the space is abuzz with activity. Producers are running here and there while a stylist runs to deliver clothing for the vjs who are being touched up before a take. There are screens everywhere, showing the station’s new roster of shows. This is Channel V, beefed up.
Channel head JM Rodriguez has high hopes for the network, “We have revamped the content to make it more appealing to local audiences, adding shows that reinforce our position with the youth market,” says JM, in his usual kiddie vibe, like he’s about to start a game. This spirit is well and alive at the V offices. It is no joke to run a tv station, but seeing the familiar faces of JM and Cat Arambulo, Channel V’s fashion director — yes, we know they play hard — but hell, they work even harder.
So when the time came for them to launch Channel V officially, they staged a one night concert that gathered the rockstars of the land — onstage and offstage. Music and mayhem more often than not come together, and this night proved it more than ever.
