So you think you can dance?
MANILA, Philippines - The biggest, toughest, hottest streetdance competition in the country returns — the Skechers Streetdance Battle Year 5! Ten high schools and 15 colleges lay it all on the line to earn this year’s bragging rights as the country’s best streetdance crew.
Excitement filled the air as 10,000 screaming streetdance enthusiasts were on the edge of their seats as they watched the heart-stopping flipping, jaw-dropping performances of the Philippines’ toughest high school and college level streetdance crews who battled it out for the Skechers Streetdance Battle competition at the Big Dome last November 21.
THE BEST OF THE BEST
After rounds of deliberation, the all-male dance crew from Claret’s Hataw emerged as the high school winner. Hataw has been known for smooth moves and seriously tripping LA style of dance. With their spirit and energy, they brought the audience to their feet and inspired their peers. “We give everything whenever we dance, no holds barred, hataw kung hataw!” says Mike Carreon, dance team captain. “It’s our third time to join the Streetdance Battle and we’re happy that we won!” he added
The three-peat champion of the Skechers Streetdance Battle from Year 1 to 3 and the come- backing UP Streetdance Club bagged the title for the college division. This year, the group showcased an all-new lineup of dancers and take pride in being original and creative. “It’s a nice comeback. We did not expect this. We’re really happy,” shared Samuel Abriza, dance team captain. “Medyo mahirap this year because we have a new batch of dancers. Dalawa na lang kaming senior. It’s hard to adjust, but all were cooperative. It paid off!” he concludes.
Judges on the finals night were Whiplash choreographer Wilson Ong, actor-dancer Jhong Hilario of the Streetboys, Jon Supan of the Manuevers, GMA 7 choreographer Miggy Tanchangco, and Georcelle Dapat-Sy of the G-Force.
