MANILA, Philippines - Spring Awakening, the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical written by Steven Sater with music by Duncan Sheik, opened its Manila run last September 25. 

Spring Awakening is set in 1891 Germany, where we meet Melchior, the young rebel who seeks knowledge on his own, and Wendla, the one who seeks answers. They awaken to first love and its undeniable emotions. Around them, their friends are also trying to grow up in their own terms amid uncontrollable passions, academic challenges, and the rigors of a very restrictive society. Their emotions explode into contemporary, alternative and punk rock songs that propel the show into modern times.
