MANILA, Philippines - “Social media is really important in Southeast Asia,” says Gilby. “On average they spend twice as much time in SEA markets like Philippines or Thailand as those in the US. It speaks a lot to the real sense of community we have in a lot of SEA countries.” Here are some of the Disney Star Wars campaigns springing up on social media:
• My Star Wars Memory. A contest to get fans to share their fondest Star Wars memories in a 15-second video on Instagram, for the opportunity to win tickets to the Gala Premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in their respective countries.

• #DarkSideStyle / #LightSideStyle. In an effort to involve and interest young adults and casual fans in an organic social movement, they can express their #DarkSideStyle and/or #LightSideStyle on Instagram. Disney’s Maker talents are leading this initiative, encouraging fans and followers alike to do the same. They’ll post the best ones on their brand channels.

• Join The Force. During the week of release, fans and casual fans will be invited to participate in a “pass the saber” movement, where users can record themselves receiving a saber from one side of the screen, wielding a lightsaber (or anything they can find that looks like one), and then passing it off to the other side of the screen, to create a chain of videos. Users can then stitch their videos together with any of the Maker talents’ and their own friends through Facebook login at the site, www.jointheforce.asia.
