Futuring, Eva & Adele

Futuring by Eva and Adele

MANILA, Philippines - Renowned for its collaborative work with artists, Swatch presents the first of several Swatch Art Specials to be released during the preview days of La Biennale Arte 2015: Futuring by Eva & Adele.

Eva & Adele are contemporary artists based in Berlin. The duo coined the word “futuring,” turning  “the future” into a verb designating a time unfinished. Futuring is also the principle of the artists’ performance, the unquestioned freedom of sexual self-determination that Eva & Adele trepresent. Their work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in Europe and around the world, including the MoMA PS1 in New York, the Kunsthaus in Zurich and many other public collections worldwide, although as they say, “wherever we are is museum.”

Eva & Adele consider their Swatch to be conceptual and sensual at the same time, inspired by the Eva & Aadeld Gesamtkunstwerk (Towatl Work of Art). They see the packaging and the watch as a biographical sculpture. The Eva & Adele heart-head logo at the end of the bracelet represents the performative element of their internationally world-renowned appearances.Futuring by Eva & Adele is available in a limited and numbered edition, with the limited-edition number appearing both on the back of the watch and inside the Special Packaging.

The 56th International Art Exhibition is ongoing unti Nov.  22.

Duet in Blue and Red by Sigrid Calon

In collaboration with Swatch, Dutch artist Sigrid Calon has created the new Swatch Art Special: Duet in Blue and Red.

Inspired by embroidery, Sigrid’s designs often begin with the horizontal and diagonal lines of perforated cardboard. She applies a simple set of rules to generate colorful grids and patterns and uses gradients available in risographic printing, a stencil-print technique, to add depth and volume.

Sigrid’s innovative design for Duet in Blue and Red uses multiple colored, transparent disks in place of hands; as the minutes and hours pass and the disks rotate, the dial presents fascinating new patterns. It was presented at la Biennale Arte 2015 in September 2015 during a welcome event for the new wave of artists from The Swatch Art Peace Hotel. It will be on display at Swatch Faces 2015 — Pavilion at Arsenale, together with the work of the newly-arrived artists and additional artwork by Sigrid Calon. The latter includes a series of risographic prints based on portraits taken from the archive of Willem van Zoetendaal and transformed by the artist. Also on display are a number of textile prints, compositions from her award-winning book, To the extend of / \ | & - that have been scanned and digitally printed on a large scale.

Duet in Blue and Red  is presented in special packaging designed by the artist. Along with the watch and a flipbook, the packaging contains a colorful toy made with multiple rotating disks that generate, like the watch dial, intriguing new patterns.

Swatch the route by Samuel Anthamatten

Freeskier and Swatch Proteam athlete Samuel Anthamatten is a man of the mountains: he grew up in Zermatt, at the foot of the legendary Matterhorn, and still lives in the Swiss Alpine village today. A certified professional mountain guide, he has climbed “big walls” in Switzerland, Canada, Patagonia and the Himalayas, established a new alpine route across the North Face of the Matterhorn, and made the first ascent of the Jesemba South Face (7,350 meters) in Nepal.

Inspired by Samuel Anthamatten and his amazing achievements as a mountaineer and freeskier, Swatch the Route is a rugged Sports Special celebrating his extraordinary talent and his commitment to Zermatt and the Matterhorn.

The dial of Swatch The Route shows a map of the Matterhorn with a red line charting the route of the first successful ascent to the 4,478 meter summit. The black hour and minute hands show an ice ax and hook – still essential tools for anyone brave enough to challenge the mountain. Samuel Anthamatten commented, “The first successful climb of the Matterhorn followed a line that until 1865 was considered absurd and unconquerable, but in the end it is the ‘simplest’ and most logical route. Thanks to Swatch I had the opportunity to design a watch for my “home mountain”, and from now on, every time I climb the Matterhorn I’ll be wearing the watch on my wrist.”

Swatch The Route is available in a limited edition and in a special packaging which takes up the mountaineering theme as an extension of the watch design. A canvas pouch evocative of pioneering mountain equipment holds an inlay Plexiglas box and within it the new watch.

Swatch is available at Swatch Shops in SM Megamall, Glorietta 1, Greenbelt 5, TriNoma, Alabang Town Center, Marquee Mall, Pampanga, SM Mall of Asia, SM City North Edsa, Rockwell Power Plant Mall, Greenhills V-Mall, Shangri-La Plaza, Robinsons Place Manila, Sta.
