MANILA, Philippines - Two-time Grammy Award-winning balladeer Diane Schuur will perform on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Cellar Tower of the Tower Club on the 33rd floor of Philamlife Tower on Paseo de Roxas, Makati.
Schuur will accompany herself on the piano, backed up by a rhythm section in this intimate one-and-a-half-hour concert.
Hailed as a leading contemporary jazz vocalist, Schuur was born blind in Washington in 1953. She grew up surrounded by the world of jazz embraced by her parents. Her father was a pianist, and her mother kept a formidable collection of Duke Ellington and Dinah Washington albums. Washington is listed as Schuur’s major influence, and she learned the iconic singer’s What a Difference a Day Makes while she was still a toddler.
With a distinguished recording career that spans three decades, Schuur’s music has filled almost every corner of the 20th century musical landscape. Her musical collaborations include Barry Manilow, B.B. King, Ray Charles and Jose Feliciano. These collaborations have resulted in #1 Billboard Chart recordings.
Schuur has been invited to perform at the White House on several occasions, and was one of select musical guests invited to perform for Stevie Wonder at the Kennedy Center Honors when he received his award.
Schuur recorded an homage to two of her important mentors, Frank Sinatra and Stan Getz. The CD, entitled “I Remember You (With Love to Stan and Frank)” was released in June 2014 and commemorated her discovery by Stan at the 1979 Monterey Jazz Festival.
Price is P5,000 inclusive of show, dinner buffet and two glasses of wine. Dinner is at 7 p.m. Show starts at 8 p.m. The private performance is organized by Bobby Cuenca.
