Catholic Women’s Club sets annual fundraiser

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Founded 93 years ago by American ladies to help alleviate the plight of the poor and disadvantaged, the Catholic Women’s Club (CWC) through the years has remained true to its  mission. Its charitable projects include scholarships for deserving youth, the care of abandoned children and the elderly, the construction of three pavilions in the Elsie Gatches Village and the construction of the CWC Gawad Kalinga Village in Taguig where women and family members are taught livelihood skills. This year, CWC will have its own Gawad Kalinga Village in Palo, Leyte for the victims of typhoon Yolanda.

The CWC also embarked on a environmental project at the Arroceros Park near the Manila City Hall and the Metropolitan Theater and Museum through the initiative of active environmentalist member Ninit Paterno.

Tessie Amparo, president of the CWC, recently announced that its annual ball on Sept. 18 at the Manila Polo Club will raise money to support its charitable activities. The Great Gatsby-themed ball chaired by Rosemarie Lazaro, with Karen Macasaet and Tess Rodrigo, will feature professionally choreographed period dance numbers to be performed by talented CWC dancers.
