Master every mile: Timex keeps time for 2014 Ironman 70.3 PH
MANILA, Philippines - Triathletes flocked to Cebu last Aug. 1 to 3, as the city hosted this year’s Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines, which was held in Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa.
Global iconic brand Timex played official timekeeper in this prestigious triathlon, which drew participants and fans from all over Asia-Pacific.
Timex joined the competition with its own pool of triathletes — Timex TMM triathlon team, athlete couple Anthony and Maricel Pangilinan and the newest Timex ambassador Monica Torres. The limited-edition Timex Commemorative Watch sold at the Timex booth was well received among the triathletes.
This year’s Ironman was also a great opportunity for Timex to welcome the feisty and strong triathlete Monica Torres to the Timex family, through a press conference also held in Cebu on Aug. 2. A woman with undeniable endurance and zeal for sports, Monica is the perfect Timex ambassador under the sports division.
Monica has been dominating the female triathlon category in the Philippines since 2008, being the only female triathlete in the country competing as professional. Aside from international races, she has also made a name in local races and triathlons.
She finished first place at the recently concluded Run United 1 held last March 16 at the SM Mall of Asia. Aside from this, she was the first Philippine triathlete to win the Overall Female Titles in international triathlons — 2013 Metaman Half Triathlon Indonesia and 2012 Nautica Malibu Triathlon USA.
Monica was also the only triathlete to take a Podium Place in the professional Category of an Ironman brand event. She didn’t get a place in the podium this year, but she remains the fastest Filipina in the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines for six years now — since its inauguration in 2009, all the way until 2014.
Aside from running and triathlon, Monica is a passionate writer. She’s a columnist of Manila Bulletin Sports Digest and the owner and blogger of 3isgreaterthan1.com. She also shares her knowledge on running and triathlon through hosting running and triathlon clinics and races.
With her astonishing record, it is only right that she is equipped with the best running buddy, the newest Timex Run Trainer 2.0. This state-of-the-art GPS watch by Timex is designed for runners of all levels, with its crisp, high-resolution display, intuitive easy-to-use interface and smaller size. The Run Trainer 2.0 with heart rate monitor is priced at P21,990, available in all major Timex Shops.
