Blissful thinking
Style, no longer just a fashion-thing, now also insists on living within the walls of daily life. It is in the books we choose to stack on our bedside tables, the baubles we leave in plain sight, even in the way sunlight falls into the room. Suddenly everything is art and the home, one giant canvas. But as with clothes, homes these days now have a tendency to look like replicas of each other — or taken from the pages of a magazine. We go to the same stores and buy the same pillows, shelves and sheets so that what was supposed to be an extension of personal style becomes a mere exercise of styling-by-numbers. A fresh, new space in Shangri-La Plaza offers a solution. The East Wing’s home décor, furniture and appliance stores are a sight for sore eyes. Artfully laid out and lit to please, they offer products as well as styling inspiration worthy of your Instagram feed.
On Level 6 of Shangri-La Plaza East Wing is Shelter, a home furnishing store that’s really a “retail theater” — a wonderland of essentials and knick knacks that engages all five senses. In the same level, you’ll also find Steltz The Gallery, a showroom of iconic lighting pieces including items from their flagship brand Flos and their latest partner, Brand Van Egmond; Luxen, a spacious lighting showroom with a ceiling of Swarovski-embellished chandeliers; and Kitchen Pro, home to the world’s best kitchen brands like Zwilling, J.A. Henckels, Staub and Victorinox and other kitchen gadgets, cutlery and cookware for professional and hobby chefs.
Also in the roster are home furnishings and accessories stores Regalong Pambahay, kitchen specialty and items store Gourdo’s; the preferred brand of five-star hotels, sultans and sheiks, Pamana Carpets; men’s lifestyle gift store, Cutting Edge; and audiophile equipment store, Bose. Soon to open on the same level is SMEG, which will carry premium home appliances that combine technology with Italian Style.
Bang & Olufsen at Mid-Level 2/3 showcases a range of television and sound systems, high-performance loudspeakers, as well as headphones, earphones and portable devices that rank as high in design as they do in quality.
At the Lower Ground Level, D&K Kitchen Essentials carries De Longhi and Kenwood small appliances, while Kitchen Works boasts of European brand cookware, bakeware and kitchen utensils.
It’s easy to get lost and at the same time, find your domestic bliss at stores like these. Walking into these stores, one might think, “I could live here.” And perhaps that’s the idea.
