Jasmine Curtis reads books on women, divorce and heaven

Jasmine is a 19-year-old Filipino-Australian actress and a host on TV5. And of course, she’s the younger Curtis!

I bumped into Jasmine at the Australian Embassy special screening of The Book Thief and I asked her to share her favorite books.

This is her top 10 list:

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. “The raw reality is painful for women in this story. It will make you feel thankful for where you live and what kind of society you are surrounded by.”

Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks. “Divorces aren’t beautiful. Not always, at least. But this wistful story executes sacrifice and romance so wonderfully.”

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. “Because I’m a teenager and it makes you feel in love even if it hurts, even if you don’t know what that feels like.”

Captivating by John & Stasi Eldredge. “It allowed me to reflect on what I should be thankful for and what makes me a success.”

For One More Day by Mitch Albom. “One question: What would you do if you had one more day with someone you’ve lost? This tore my heart into pieces and made me cry. One of my absolute favorite novels, ever.”

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. “I loved that the story was told through a kid’s point of view about his love and passion in searching for something his dad left behind after 9/11.”

Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. “One of those ‘the book was better than the movie’ type of novels. An easy, light read, definitely should be read before watching the movie!”

The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton. “This story delivered from book to movie. It shows the bridge between two different socioeconomic classes, something we can all learn from. Rich or poor, we are human.”

One Day by David Nicholls. “Another novel that was horribly translated to film, it talks about love far away from the fairy tale everyone is clouded with, which is what makes me so fond of it.”

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. “I love the way this novel shows how there are numerous (or in the title’s case, five) people that influence you in one way or another and cause certain things to happen in your life whether you notice it or not. Just because it’s number 10 on my list doesn’t mean it’s my least favorite! This is actually one of my best reads ever.”
