The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Last year’s “My Favorite Book” essay writing contest had a wide array of entries from writers who chose diverse books. For 2014, readers can now Instagram selfies with their favorite book to #myfavebookmyselfie2014.

From all the entries in 2013, the judges chose eight winners from the weekly published essays. First-prize winner is JB Lazarte, who wrote about Joseph Heller’s satirical novel Catch-22; second prize is Radney Ranario, who wrote about Albert Camus’s The Stranger; and third-prize winner is Guillermo T. Maglaya Sr. who wrote about being interested in books and poetry thanks to his father. The five honorable-mention winners are C. Horatius Mosquera (Crossing the Threshold of Hope), Catherine Rose Torres (Snow Leopard, etc.),  Pristine Althea L. de Leon (The End of the Affair),   Mark Gil M. Caparros (Mga Sanaysay sa Lupalop ng Gunita) and Recle E. Vibal (The Graveyard Book).

Winners will be awarded on March 21, Friday, at Peninsula Manila Hotel. They are requested to contact STAR Lifestyle’s Tanya T. Lara at tanyalara@yahoo.com.
