Where do you get inspiration?

WORDS WORTH - Mons Romulo - The Philippine Star

Inspiration strikes us in different ways. For some it comes fast and for others it may take days or even months. Being inspired is a great feeling that makes us more productive.

Read on as some personalities share with us what they do to feel inspired.

Janina Dizon, gemologist and jeweler

When I need to be inspired, my first thought is to travel.  Travel and inspiration come hand-in-hand because my mind is more relaxed and receptive. If I can’t do that, I lock myself in a room with no distractions and let myself loose!

Kenneth Cobonpue, furniture designer

I believe that inspiration does not strike like a bolt of lightning, I have to look for it. What I do is I set aside a time — look at my old sketches, books, photographs and dig into my treasure of memories. The search for inspiration in a given time becomes a habit and somehow, the mind becomes faster in finding that spark in the darkness.

Nicole Whisenhunt, jewelry designer

When I need to be inspired, I usually take a break and go on a vacation or simply just source for new materials that excite me to start on a new project. Actually, inspiration is really everywhere —  it can be found in music, a movie, or even a mood.

Penk Ching, cake designer

In some cases, it is easy to draw inspiration. But for difficult cases, I just relax by painting or meditating they  help me clear my mind. In the end, I feel refreshed and ready to start my search.

Macky  Crespo Fah, jewelry designer

When I am in need of inspiration, I usually go through my collection of books. Also being aware of my surroundings helps keep me inspired. There is beauty everywhere.

Cristalle Belo Henares, managing director, Belo Essentials

To me, inspiration is that moment when I feel so powerful that it is possible for me to make anything a reality. It’s that burst of high energy to what I’m doing at the moment. Sometimes I need silence, while other times I need to distance myself from the task at hand and out of nowhere a brilliant idea will just pop up. Since I am a highly social being, I make it a point to surround myself weekly with different groups of people. I realize  I need to be surrounded by hungry people… competitive people that need to win. Breathing in these people’s energies weekly puts me on the right track to making sure our businesses — Belo Medical Group, Sexy Solutions and Belo Essentials — are on top of their game.

When I need inspiration, I turn to nature because of its beauty. Fortunately I am blessed with a spacious garden surrounded by clusters of all sorts of trees, plants and bushes. There is the sound of water in the pond which is very soothing. I also enjoy the sound of birds.

Another source of inspiration is when I recall my favorite travels to distant places, others very far, just close . In my mind I see and feel my great moments in different seasons of the year.

I can also turn to the arts and culture. Music is great — whether it be classical or contemporary easy listening. The theater and quality cinemas.

My constant inspiration are my close and nice friends whose company I truly enjoy, and whose goods deeds I admire.

Fernando Aracama, executive chef of Aracama

When I need to be inspired, I pack up and do a little traveling. It never fails to inspire me when I find myself in a new place and experience another culture first hand. I like meeting people, hearing their stories, seeing where and how they live. And as always, the best part for me are the food and drinks. From these wonderful memories come the most delicious inspirations when I cook for family and friends the moment I come back home.

Robbie Carmona, fashion director, Saga Events

I pack my bags and travel.  I get inspired by the things I see during my travels.  I watch performances, watch some shows and check out installations I see on the streets.  I like observing people, what they wear, how they act and these inspire the movements I create on the runway.
