MANILA, Philippines - In line with the Friends of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ (FCCP) thrust to bring arts and culture within the reach of schoolchildren, especially those studying in public schools, the outreach committee undertook the project “Kulturang Handog ng FCCP Sa Kabataan ng Novalichez†recently.
The project was made possible through the efforts of Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, herself an avid arts and culture lover.
The students of Dona Rosario High School as well as nearby resident were treated to an afternoon of music and dance. Trixie Dayrit, a 16-year-old soprano delighted the audience with kundiman songs. She sang Nicanor Abelardo’s Bituin Marikit and Francisco Santiago’s Ano Kaya Ang Kapalaran.
Highlight of the event was the performance of Bayanihan, the national folk dance company of the Philippines, who reminded the young audience of the rich cultural heritage of our country.
A simple merienda was hosted by the city government after the event.
