Catfish, anyone?

MANILA, Philippines - You don’t have to go far to catch a glimpse of this scary and weird-looking Wels catfish.  At Las Farolas fish world in Frontera Verde Drive beside Tiendesitas in Ortigas Ave cor. E. Rodriguez Jr. Ave. (C-5), Pasig City, this rare and prized river monster may catch your fancy.  Also known as Sheatfish, the Wels catfish  is one of the largest catfish in the world. Medieval reports claim it is an aggressive man-eater that will swallow you whole. Found in wide areas of central, southern, and Eastern Europe, near the Baltic and Caspian Seas, in the United Kingdom all the way east to Kazakhstan and south to Greece, it is a scaleless fresh and brackish water fish recognizable by its broad, flat head and wide mouth. Wels catfish, which matures to a maximum size of 2.2 meters and weighs up to 65 kilos, can live for at least 30 years.
