Find out what happens ‘Before Midnight’

MANILA, Philippines - Movie enthusiasts and fans of Before Sunrise and Before Sunset will again be captivated by the performances of Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy in the latest Richard Linklater installment, Before Midnight

Before Midnight picks up nine years after Before Sunset, once again following the series’ main characters, Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy).

Unlike the previous two Before movies, which focus on the couple’s undeniable attraction to each other, Before Midnight takes a look at how Jesse and Celine’s relationship changed after family and work pressures begin to slip in.  The two are now married with two daughters, and Jesse still writes novels, while Celine is working toward her dream job.  The relationship is livable except for the strain Jesse feels from not being able to see his son (who lives with the ex-wife) and he ponders whether to move to Chicago to be closer (much to the chagrin of Celine). This time the action takes place in Greece, where Jesse is the guest of a famous Greek writer and his friend.

In a recent interview with ABS-CBN North News Bureau correspondent Yong Chavez, Hawke said, “The thing that makes me most happy about Jesse and Celine is that they’re still interested in connecting. What can happen to people is they can get a little bored or a little tuned out.” Delpy added, “They just don’t stop. They’re so engaged with each other.” Explaining the Before series’ success, director Linklater said, “People can relate to the characters. They’re not superheroes, they’re not extraordinary people. They’re somewhat normal people so you can reflect and see yourself in them to some degree.”

Before Midnight will be shown in the Philippines on July 3 in theaters nationwide.
