The secret to three generations of beauty

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Pond’s devotes the month of May to mothers. For generations, it has been a part of Pond’s mission to help Filipinas, mothers and daughters alike, become more beautiful and radiant. The beauty brand has always championed radiance and youthful beauty and this month, Pond’s specifically joins daughters in honoring their moms with the gift of timeless beauty, and encourages them to say, “Stay young, Mom!”

Apples Aberin with mother Ophie and daughter Sam

Spanning three generations of poise and elegance, theirs is a family of unmistakable beauty. Apples Aberin, with her effortless style, her mom Ophie, with her quiet sophistication, and her daughter Sam, with her fresh vibrance — they’re proof that beauty does indeed run in the family.

However, more than merely genes, it’s believing in the same beauty philosophies that makes these three women absolute stunners. “My mom is very low maintenance,” shares Apples, a PR maven and self-confessed beauty junkie. Apples speaks fondly of her mother, and is thankful she inherited her mother Ophie’s simplicity, elegance and undeniably youthful skin.

Soft-spoken and radiantly youthful, Ophie’s uncomplicated beauty regimen is her secret to looking and staying young despite her age. In fact, Ophie is quick to share her tried-and-tested routine — beauty soap, water and Pond’s. Using Pond’s is a habit she also got from her own mother, who was already using it in the ’50s. “I like to keep things simple,” says Ophie.

This simple beauty philosophy bides well with Apples, especially since she juggles a hectic corporate career and forays into writing, modeling and hosting. “One of the things I learned from my mom is to keep your regimen simple, so that it’s easy to maintain and it remains consistent,” Apples says. She always goes back to her low- maintenance beauty routine at the end of each day, a habit she gladly inherited from her mother Ophie. Sam, the pretty model-TV host and Apples’ daughter, in turn, swears by her mom and lola’s beauty advice. “We’re all very similar,” she says. “They’re very classic, and I try to be that way, too. Keep it fresh, clean, and simple.”

The beauty legacy, it seems, doesn’t only work one-way for this family. Ophie admits that she actually also learns a lot from from her beauty guru daughter. “It can work the other way around as well,” she candidly shares when asked about the top beauty advice she’s handed down to Apples. This revelation is very telling, beauty for the Aberins is cyclical and alive. The best thing about it? Ophie likes gathering new tricks from her daughter. “I don’t mind learning!” she says.

It seems that Pond’s lies at the center of this family’s beauty habits — whether handed down or handed upward across generations. This is all well and good, especially since Ophie wants her daughter and apo to preserve their natural radiance. And both Apples and Sam want their mom to look young, feel young and stay young.
