Joseph Marco on 5 must-try Mati delights

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - You know you’re in paradise when you have feasted not only on the place’s beauty but on the many offerings that the locals are proud of. Here are five Mati delights that you shouldn’t forget to try when at this humble and inviting travel destination.

Seafood galore. Make sure to go to Mati with a hearty appetite as your plates will never run out of seafood to choose from like my favorites — crab, lobster and shrimps.

Ube turon. Smashed ube wrapped a la spring rolls and voila, a taste of heaven. Mati is known for ube turon.

Fresh buko juice. Well, it isn’t hailed as the coconut capital of the Philippines for nothing. We were treated to never-ending gulps of Mati’s buko juice.

Biko with toppings. Locals and tourists savor each box of this Mati treat from Paz Delicacies found at the Madang Public Market. Sweet tooth alert!

Menzi pomelo. Sweetness comes in the form of this ripe, fruity Mati agricultural possession. Don’t dare leave Mati without a taste of the Menzi pomelo!
