A green Christmas at Prado Farms
MANILA, Philippines - Christmas is best celebrated the Filipino way, even more if celebrated in the province where simplicity and tranquility reside. Just 90 minutes away from Manila is Prado Farms in Lubao, Pampanga. Formerly a warehouse of LPG tanks, the five-hectare property was transformed beautifully by the Gutierrezes of Pampanga into a haven of nature and culture. Noticeable when you enter the farm is how the family did not put anything to waste and recycled old LPG tanks to be part of interesting pieces in the farm.
Inside the farm are old Filipino houses with rustic architecture but with a touch of modernism. The exterior of the houses can definitely serve as a beautiful background to a group picture. The interiors are a delight to look at too, from the stairs to the doors which were all carefully designed one by one.
Staying true to Pampanga being the culinary center of the Philippines, Prado Farms also boasts Filipino dishes you would not want to miss. They use native ingredients some of which came from their organic farm. People who have been there rave about the arugula-fed lechon with a surprise free-range duck inside.
Fortunately anyone can have a taste of Prado Farms this holiday season. Prado Farms opens its doors again on Dec. 29 for “Green Christmas at Prado” wherein one can experience Christmas how the hacienderos and our grandparents experienced Christmas in the Philippines. In its third year, Green Christmas at Prado brings families together to experience a healthy feast and a relaxing time.
