Iya and Anya: Ready for a life less ordinary

Manila, Philippines - Everyday we do something to feel more equipped to face the world, to feel a little less gross. Some drive to work listening to a boy band sing how God spent a little more time on them. Some do yoga to get a from-within glow. Others paint their lips Russian Red and feel like Superman straight out of the phone booth immediately after. It’s tough out there. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

This is what makes the two winners of the Rexona Confidence Project so admirable. World, meet former cheerleaders Iya Acuña and Anya Ong, two confident, promising young women plucked from their relatively quiet, regular lives to embark on a 30-Day Rexona Challenge. The two are among the hundreds of pairs of young women who auditioned for the challenge online, and their charming cheerleading video won the hearts of the judges and the masses, gaining over 15,000 views. The two were awarded last June 28 at Felix in Greenbelt 5.

Iya, 21, and Anya, 22, met in the De La Salle University Animo Squad, but they say they really bonded over dengue. “There was a time that we both couldn’t train because we both had dengue,” Anya said with a laugh. Even after graduating, the managed to keep their closeness. Atheletic Iya graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education and is now a headhunter for a recruitment company. Anya is a graduate of Communication Arts and now works as a producer in one of the country’s top entertainment networks. Both took time off their busy schedules to star in their own YouTube series documenting the 30-Day Rexona Challenge, and for a chance to win half a million pesos.

For 30 days, beginning last July 2, Iya and Anya are going to be given different challenges, some challenging their athleticism, some their singing prowess, others just plain testing their guts. Each challenged will be aired on Rexona’s YouTube channel. The girls say they are ready for any Rexona Challenge. As they said in their video, “We’re confident like that.”
