Blazing the trail: Jollibee's Drive-Thru Cross-Country Challenge
MANILA, Philippines - Highlighting their lead in the country’s Drive Thru service with a 171-strong network of stores, Jollibee tested ten teams of two in the ultimate road trip adventure of the year, the Jollibee Drive Thru Cross Country Challenge. In partnership with Ford Group Philippines, the teams had to visit as many Jollibee Drive Thru stores as they made their way from Manila to North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and back to Metro Manila in ten days.
In an exciting battle of teamwork and strategy, the teams were given a Ford Fiesta hatchback, P100,000 in cash, complete race gear and 10 days to navigate thru Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in their quest to complete as many challenges as possible. The winning team will take home P1 million and two brand new Ford Fiesta 1.4L A/T Hatchbacks.
For ten days, teams were faced with several challenges as they went from pit stop to pit stop as well as some of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. In-store challenges ranged from helping sell buckets of Chickenjoy, wrapping a Yumburger in five seconds, perfecting a cone twirl (in the Legaspi pit stop, as inspired by the perfect cone of the Mayon Volcano), bussing tables, and cleaning glass panels.
The tourist destinations also had some very interesting challenges. In Laoag, teams must dive under the sea to locate chests which contain puzzles that they have to solve on shore. The San Juanico Bridge challenge had the teams traversing the entire length of the bridge on bikes to deliver Jollibee gift certificates to a barangay. And in Las Pinas, teams had to learn how to play the Jollibee tune by ear on the famous Bamboo Organ.
Integrating famous tourist spots in the challenge is part of Jollibee’s initiative to help the Department of Tourism’s “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign. With Jollibee stores near every tourist destination, local and foreign tourists can enjoy the scenic sights of the country while enjoying the country’s langhap sarap meals.
“Jollibee is a proudly Filipino company. We wanted to feature that as you drive across the country you can enjoy the majestic scenery and there’s a Jollibee Drive Thru nearby for your hunger needs.” says Paolo Tolentino, Jollibee National Business Channels marketing services manager.
The teams also appreciated how hard it is to put together a fully efficient Jollibee store.. The tasks had them live the lives of Jollibee crew members and they even had their own uniforms which they wore whenever they did an in-store challenge.
“When you go to Jollibee, you’ll find that our store personnel are always ready to assist you and give you our Alagang Pinoy treatment. A lot of people probably don’t realize it’s really hard to run a store and do the things they do on a normal basis. These were the learnings of the challengers. They said they appreciate now how hard our crew works.,” Tolentino adds.
