What is the one thing you would redo in your life?
We all have at one time in our lives looked back and wondered what couldn’t have been if we did things in a different way. While we can’t deny that dwelling on regrets will lead us nowhere, on a positive note, looking back at our past experiences can give us lessons we can learn from. But don’t look back and get stuck. Allow yourself to look back once or twice and get ready to move on because the future has greater things in store for you.
Easter reminds us that if our Lord Jesus Christ has shown us the greatest miracle of rising from the dead to save us. We should never fear what lies ahead because we can always call on Him to give us strength as we move on to the future with a grateful heart.

There is a famous saying that goes, “The more you learn, the more you grow. The more you grow, the more you earn. The more you earn, the more happier you become.” My personal experiences were not always ideal, but that is precisely the beauty of it. It is from those imperfect experiences that lifelong lessons are instilled. It is just a matter of rising above the challenge because life is and will always be the best teacher.

I don’t think I would want to redo anything. Although I’ve made some mistakes in my life and there are things that I’ve done that I wish I could have thought out more, done better, or done differently, I believe that it’s those experiences that I have learned the most from and without them I would not be the person that I am today.

Kathryn Schulz said that the marked trait of a sociopath is not feeling regret. So regret is not that bad if you put it that way. I have come to regret little and big things. Some of them I look back on with deep sadness or with atavistic disgust. However, the vast question of redoing my life diminishes all the negative cousins of regret and I cling more to the kin of wisdom. I am pretty happy with the person I’ve become. It may sound arrogant but I think this is why we need to reshape our painful memories into lessons and learn to live each day being guided by them. Waking up happy and being the person you want to be is hard earned. I love my life.

In hindsight, I would have loved to study filmmaking after I retired from my dancing career with Ballet Philippines. That would have given me the appropriate background for what I’m doing now with independent cinema. And who knows, I could have probably directed a film or two myself!

Honestly, I don’t want to redo anything in my life. I am happy to have made mistakes and failed at times. If I had not made those mistakes and encountered those failures I wouldn’t be who I am today.

Aside from lawyering, I see myself in the future as a musician and I believe that in a band, the pianist is always the leader.

If there is one thing I could redo in my life, it would be to marry my beautiful wife, Maya, sooner. That way, I would have doubled by now the wonderful time we have had together as husband and wife.

I should’ve known better – much.

Without a doubt, I would love to have a second go at being a better daughter and take away all heartaches I caused my parents when I was growing up. Since becoming a mom, to three boys at that, I now know the amount of hard work that goes into parenting. Fingers crossed, my boys will be better sons to me and my husband.
