Star, NBS, Globe announce 'My Favorite Book' winners

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine STAR, National Book Store and Globe Telecom announce winners of My Favorite Book contest 2011, who will be awarded on Tuesday, March 20, 11:30 a.m. at The Conservatory of Peninsula Manila.

This year’s batch range from a diplomat and Palanca winner to a university student, a Jesuit volunteer and a corporate executive — and their books run the gamut of fiction, autobiographical essays, confessionals and a love story written in prime numbers.

Grand-prize winner: Catherine Rose Torres (“Indelible India”)

Second prize: Miro Frances Dimaano Capili (“Alchemies of Silence”)

Third prize: Catherine Tan (“My date with the disappointment artist”)

Honorable-mention winners:

1. Amalia Aririz Casta “Finding company in solitude”)

2. Neyo E. Valdez (“Grief is not a failure”)

3. Faye Gonzalez (“Fated to choose”)

4. Rosario Patino-Yap (“To table and to bed, come as bid”)

5. Melannie Joy D. Lando (“Mister Sandman, bring me a dream”)

Grand-prize winner Catherine Torres is a Filipino diplomat based in Singapore and has lived in New Delhi and Tokyo. Second-prize winner Miro Capili is a Political Science major at UP Diliman, and third-prize winner Catherine Tan is a pre-med student at UP Manila.

Winners will receive cash prizes and gift certificates from NBS and STAR, and premium mobile phones from Globe Telecom.
