How to enjoy summer, rain or shine

MANILA, Philippines - During summer, when the temperatures go up, and our holiday fashions get traded for skimpier, colorful alternatives, we all know, clear as the sun, that summer has officially begun. So on goes the sunblock, sunglasses and a myriad of sun-, sand-, and surf-loving activities. In come vacations, tourist destinations and various summer hot spots. In come the summer sports, like beach volleyball and wakeboarding. Binondo Girl star Kim Chiu adds: “Summer is a time to be with be with my family. Sana if given the time, we can bond in Subic because we love horses.”

Some Rainy Summers

It is a surprise to many, however, that these summer days may not always be scorching hot for us to enjoy all the usual summer activities. Especially with the La Niña phenomenon hitting the Philippines, rain can often come at the most unexpected times, including summer. As seen last year, rain can alter our plans even at the height of summer, leaving most of us craving that familiar feeling of summer.

But not to worry: every Filipino can still enjoy the feeling of summer, rain or shine. Because every Filipino can enjoy the taste of summer with the perfect halo-halo: that sound of crushing ice, the colorful sights of sago, jelly and ube melting in one superbly sweet and refreshingly cold concoction — it is truly heaven on earth, and with good reason, it is hailed as one of the best summer treats in the Philippines.

Chowking Halo-Halo: Filipino Summer Favorite

“Summer is not complete without having a cold treat on a summer’s day. That cold treat is nothing else but the delicious Chowking Halo-Halo,” says Richard Yap. Richard is now more popularly known as Chen Sy from the highly popular Chinoy saga, Binondo Girl, and despite his refined good looks and physically-fit stance, the new TV star admits to having a very big appetite for sweets.

And while he constantly craves the icy cool excitement that halo-halo brings, Richard doesn’t settle for your neighborhood-corner variety. He wants his halo-halo fit for a king, and knows only one place for it: Chowking. “The taste of the oh-so-creamy leche flan that literally melts in your mouth and the combination of all the ingredients such as the ube halaya and the ice cream makes for a heavenly cold treat that is so refreshing on a summer day.”

With no less than 14 sarap-tamis delicacies and viands topped with leche flan, ube paste and premium ice cream, Chowking easily surpasses the halo-halo we once loved in a refreshingly royal treat.

With flavor-bursting nata de coco, chewy red sago, refreshing pandan jelly, rustic sweet banana in banana syrup, caramelized langka in langka syrup, irresistible sweet bean mix, golden-roasted pinipig, the finest leche flan and ube paste generously topped by heaping scoops of Nestlé ice cream in ube or macapuno, crushed ice, and a shower of Chowking’s creamy milk mix, the Chowking Halo-Halo is heaping and heavy with summer goodness that one can enjoy as a midday treat, a sweet ending to a meal, or a too-cool nightcap. With all these ingredients in one treat, it is no surprise how Chowking’s Halo-halo cemented its position as the No. 1 best-tasting halo-halo in the country.

“I love the toppings, especially the ube and leche flan!” reveals Kim. Kim is a resident fun and fashion ambassador to millions of Filipino teens. She’s landed on many magazine covers, TV ads and highly acclaimed soaps and movies and, despite a healthy regimen, she appreciates a sweet treat such as Chowking’s Halo-Halo.

So have fun this summer, starting with what you eat. If it’s cool, colorful, creamy and completely fulfilling, it’s got to be the ultimate summer craze, Chowking Halo-Halo! Served every day, the whole day, anywhere in the Philippines, the fun and flavorful memories of summer can be had in an instant, come rain or shine!
