Bless the beasts and the children

MANILA, Philippines - Sometimes the rarest finds are right under our noses. Here in the Philippines, for instance, there are dozens of endangered animal species supported by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Anyone who’s visited Bohol’s Tarsier Sanctuary and seen how precious the tiny primates are, swum with Donsol’s Whale Sharks (Butanding), or spent a day with Calauit’s Bearcat or Mouse Deer in Palawan knows there are incredible species right in our midst.

Indeed, it’s a beautiful, wild planet that needs protecting.

In the spirit of giving back to nature, Rustan’s wants to lend a helping hand: that’s why they’re teamed up with renowned plush toys manufacturer Gund to create an exclusive 11-piece collection of endangered animal plush toys.

“Care for the Rare” is Rustan’s latest program for the holidays, with a mission to reach younger generations in spreading awareness of environmental conservation, specifically the Philippine Endangered Species. The stuffed toys, supported by the WWF, are a gift with purchase at Rustan’s, but they’re also a chance to help out various animals that need our attention.

As Rustan’s president Zenaida Tantoco puts it, “Rustan’s is proud of this collaboration with Gund because it is one of the more creative ways to spread awareness to our loyal customers. Not only will you receive nice plush toy for Christmas, but each one will know more about what’s going on in our environment.”

Ongoing from Oct. 15 to Dec. 31, 2011, each Gund stuffed animal is available with a minimum single-receipt purchase of P10,000. Just present your receipt to the concierge and choose any one of the 11 Gund toy designs.

You can choose among Rustan’s exclusive collection of Philippine Endangered Species by Gund that features the Philippine Eagle (Haring Ibon); Bearcat (Binturong); Buffalo (Tamaraw); Tarsier (Mamag); Warty Pig (Baboy Ramo); Blue-Naped Parrot (Pikoy); Marine Turtle (Pawikan); Mouse Deer (Pilandok); Cloud Rat (Bu-ot); Cockatoo (Kalangay) and the Whale Shark (Butanding).

The same promotion will also be running simultaneously on the Rustan’s Facebook page. When you join the Rustan’s page, fans can post a picture of their favorite animal and describe it by the virtue that it represents. The most “likes” will win their chosen animal toy.

So get into the spirit of conservation this season and celebrate for a cause at Rustan’s.
