MANILA, Philippines - An extraordinary performance from some of the country’s world-class performers delighted clients of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel recently as the bank hosted a very special gala night in celebration of BPI’s 160th year anniversary, with the theme, “Beyond the Legacy.”

Not only did the event reflect BPI’s 160-year banking tradition of strength and stability, it also characterized the bank’s thrust of going beyond our legacy of providing Filipinos with excellent banking innovations today.

Throughout the years, BPI has always set its sights on improving every Filipino’s banking experience by going beyond the ordinary with banking technologies that help address the needs of Filipino businesses. And this vision was perfectly translated into an evening filled with world-class entertainment and a look back at the glorious years that BPI had in the past.

The event showcased the bank’s legacy through a fusion of classical and contemporary genres presented by some of our outstanding local performers. Hosted by Audie Gemora and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, two of the foremost names in the Philippine entertainment industry and leading lights of Philippine Musical Theater, the event reflected BPI’s rich heritage and its ever-evolving vision for the future.

The performers included Gary Valenciano, the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, noted percussion dance group Buganda Drumbeaters, contemporary dance group Airdance, and notable eight-member singing group 92 AD. Other performers were pianist Andrei Ave, techno-violinist Princess Ybanez, seasoned Filipino musician Kettle Mata, internationally recognized disc jockey Elian Habayeb, premier classical artists such as the Opera Belles, Cris Villonco, Rachel Gerodias, and Primo, together with Mata, Candice Adea, and JM Cordero joined the Manila Philharmonics Orchestra and 92 AD in a number that truly befits BPI’s continuing legacy to the future and the world.

Indeed, the event served as a musical journey that retold the colorful history of BPI’s past to its present and beyond. Armed with standards to raise its quality service and make banking simple, trouble-free, and effortless, BPI is bent on continuing to introduce new ideas, new systems, and new technologies that truly enable Filipinos and the nation to move forward.
