Sonny Angara on Marian Rivera & Heart Evangelista war

WILL SOON FLOURISH - Wilson Lee Flores -

Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned/Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.  — William Congreve, 1697 (this quote often wrongly attributed to William Shakespeare)

One unique suggestion to once and for all settle the raging showbiz dispute between GMA-7 stars Marian Rivera and Heart Evangelista came from the Harvard-educated Abra Congressman Sonny Angara, an idea — if accepted by both actresses — that would be an event selling more tickets than this weekend’s NBA basketball games at the Araneta Coliseum.

Sonny Angara tweeted: “I humbly suggest that this feud between Marian Rivera and Heart Evangelista be settled with a mud wrestling match.” Whew!

Heart Evangelista announced to the media details of her worsening quarrel with Marian Rivera, which started after Heart said she was “excited” to work with Marian’s boyfriend Dingdong Dantes on a TV show, a remark that allegedly angered Marian. Later, I interviewed the beautiful actress

after a late lunch at her family’s Barrio Fiesta restaurant in Greenhills, San Juan. Heart confided to this writer that she “is not as strong” as her feisty mother Cecilia Payawal-Ongpauco. She denied reports that when she and Marian returned from shooting a movie in Ilocos Norte, her mother allegedly brought with her 15 policemen. Her mom only had two airport personnel to accompany her.

By the way, I tried to get Marian Rivera’s side on the issue the same day; her manager Popoy Carativo texted back: “Hi Wilson. We have no comment on the issue. Marian is happy with the continued success of Amaya. She is shooting Panday today. Thanks again and more power to you.”

Love Can Make You Think Of Stupid Things

I asked Heart if it was true, as she has alleged, that Marian Rivera barged into her hotel room in Ilocos Norte two times and locked the door to angrily confront her. Could all this have been caused by Marian’s love for boyfriend Dingdong? Does jealousy make you do such things?

Heart replied to my questions: “I think love can make you think of stupid things, but still you must know how to handle yourself in the right way and not act wrongly. That’s why I suggest that men read the book entitled Why Men Marry Bitches.”

Are women angrier when scorned, especially in matters of the heart? Heart laughed and responded: “Yes, we girls can be very emotional, but there are different ways to do it. Love can make you do things that you don’t know you can do. But it is important not to let your emotions let you do wrong things.”

Since it’s near the President’s annual State of the Nation Address (SONA), I asked Heart Evangelista how her quarrel with Marian Rivera might apply to our often-toxic political scene and the many bitter conflicts in that field. She replied: “I believe our politicians all have good intentions for the country, so in the end, don’t let your anger let you do stupid things.”

Wendi Deng, Crouching Tiger Wife Of Rupert Murdoch

Since we’re on the topic of hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, this writer wishes to express admiration for Western media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s China-born wife Wendi Deng Murdoch who a few days ago awed the world by quickly lunging at and smacking a protester who tried to attack her husband with a shaving cream pie in the British parliament. She followed up by picking up the plate and trying to strike the attacker with it.

With a leap and a spike seen by millions on TV, the Yale MBA graduate, yoga devotee and former school volleyball champion made international news and became a top worldwide Twitter trending topic.

Rupert Murdoch was in the British parliament to defend himself from one of his media outfit’s hacking scandal, but his wife may have turned things around to their favor and to her advantage — surely in the Western media as well as in the Internet all over China. She is also busy promoting her newly released movie, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan which she produced.

“That’s our Wendi. She is great — incredibly full of energy, incredibly intelligent, living the life and just squeezing everything out of it,” said Vanity Fair writer Michael Wolff. “Wendi Murdoch may be even smarter than Rupert Murdoch,” said New York Daily News gossip columnist Joanna Molloy.

“Crouching Tiger, Flying Murdoch” was the headline of The Daily Beast, with a special feature on Wendi written by Newsweek reporter Melinda Liu. “With a strong swipe, Murdoch’s wife stands by her man, “ Reuters bannered.

Here are some excerpts from the global Twitter which this writer gathered:

American TV news anchor Katoe Couric tweeted: “Wow, wendy (sic) murdoch giving whole new meaning to the term tiger mother… insanity!”

Rap mogul Russell Simmons: “When I saw Wendi Murdoch last week in NYC, she told me last week she had to go to London to take ‘care of her man’ ... now I see what she meant.”

US comedian Mo Rocca: “If Wendi Deng had been my piano teacher I’d be Van Cliburn. Or dead.”

Australia’s Daily Telegraph reporter Joe Hildebrand: “At last the ‘News of the World’ inquiry has exposed News Corp’s deepest and darkest secret: Wendi Deng is a Power Ranger.”

Time magazine tweeted: “Photos: Wendi Deng, the pie-thwarting woman behind Rupert Murdoch (http://ti.me/pW9tbZ via @TIMENewsFeed).”

The Washington Post tweeted: “How Wendi Deng saved Rupert Murdoch... again CNN’s Isha Sesay: “Hosting BackStory at 5 p.m. ET. You all saw Wendi Deng Murdoch slap down her husband’s assailant. What’s her story? We’re doing some digging.”

Britain’s Guardian newspaper columnist Marina Hyde: “If only Wendi Deng could use her powers for good... Why, I’ll bet she could clean up the Gotham City that is Britain.”

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof tweeted: “I’m awed by Wendi Murdoch taking down Rupert’s attacker. She was way ahead of the police. Good for her New York Times reporter Hiroko Tabuchi, based in Tokyo: “Video of Murdoch attack and wife Wendi cracking the guy in the face: http://t.co/Mea0fAl via @nickbilton.”

Guardian newsdesk editor in London Claire_Phipps Claire Phipps: “So, protester smacked ‘foam pie’ into Rupert Murdoch’s right shoulder; Wendi Deng grabbed pie and whacked it on protester’s head.”

Freelance reporter Heather Brooke: “Wendi Deng is living up to all expectations — she’s a not-so-secret ninja.”

Guardian technology editor Charles Arthur tweeted: “Full marks to Wendi Deng — quick as a cat.”

Assistant to the editor of The Talking Points Memo, former editor-in-chief of LA’s Neon Tommy Callie Schweitzer: “GIRL POWER!!!!!!!!! RT @krisroberts2909: Wendi Deng absolutely clocked whoever that was!”

Forbes magazine tweeted: “Can you think of some other notable wives who have stuck up for their husbands like Wendi Deng Murdoch did yesterday? Tweet us!”
